Beer City is a series of races that take place in Northern California, in Alameda, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, and San Jose. Each one is a celebration of regional brewing. Each one is also a kickass competition for competitive runners. When you take park in the Beer City series, you are eligible for points based on your overall finish and age group results. The more you race, the more points you gain. The more points you have, the more likely you are to win something.
The scoring currently on the website is from all the races that have taken part in Beer City so far. We wanted to see how it would work and wanted to be able to show you. Our aim in the scoring is to make it as gender neutral as possible and in the final scoring in 2024, it's most likely that we will use the gender points only in our overall score (non-binary runners don't despair, we will figure out a solution for you.)
First, the half marathon has slightly more weight than the other races by 10%. This is also true of the 10k at Alameda Pint, our Race of Champions. Since the 10k is the longer distance we weighed it the same as the half marathons.
In 2024, it's most likely that we will blend together the gender scores to create our top 10. Right now the gender score is calculated so that the top 25 runners of each sex receive points. The equation for amount is 51 - x, in which x is your place in the race. The gender score also includes points for your age group position. We award points for the top 5 in each age group with a point model of 10 - x, in which x is your place in the Age Group.
In the 2022-2023 scoring the Overall category contains both the Gender and Age Group scores, plus a smaller credit for finishing in the top 5 overall. The model for that is 6 - x, in which x is your finishing position. Every person also receives a point for taking part.
